I ran a 5k! And Mommies on a Mission Update!

Despite a crazy week of sickies and hubby working a ton of overtime (meaning mommy works overtime at home too), I managed to stay on track with my running, and last week, I ran my first post-preggo 5k :)

Can I just explain the outfit real quick?? So it was literally SNOWING the morning of the 5k...sure the snow melted as soon as it hit the ground, but SNOW falling from the sky people...it was freezing! There was no way I could wear just shorts (which is what I was planning to do until 5 minutes before I left my house) so I threw on some pants...but I was driving myself to the race and needed to keep my keys on my person, but I didn''t have any pockets on the pants I put on. I was in a rush to get out the door (and a little nervous, so not quite thinking things through), so I just threw on the shorts, knowing they had a small hidden pocket to keep my car key in...NOTE TO SELF: a simple hoody with a pocket would have looked much cuter. But I digress...

So like I said, it was freezing cold the morning of the race, and yes, snowing a bit on my drive there. But by the time the race started, the snow/rain/weird wet stuff had stopped and it was a decent morning for a run! I met up with my amazing friend Liz, and her sweet friend Christy. This was Liz's first ever 5k, so she was pumped. Her energy was amazing!

This is our "we got this!" pose!
We stayed together the whole race to keep each other going. I felt so great during the run, and was surprised by how ready for this I really was after only 6 weeks of running since having Ivy. We finished together in about 38 minutes, and Liz had a personal best...she shaved 10 minutes off of her usual 5k time!!! I was so proud of her, and proud of all of us for making it across the finish line strong! It was so much fun.

Since doing the 5k, I've been motivate to try and push myself to run 3 miles in my workout...so I've kinda ditched the Couch to 5k program. I am only 2 weeks away from finishing it anyway, and at this point in the program, you are pretty much done with the walk/run interval training, and now running for 20-25 minutes, making your way up to 30 minutes by the end of Week 8. So I'm just pushing myself a little harder a little earlier...on Wednesday I ran 3.2 miles in 35 minutes (with Ivy in a jogger, hills, and wind). It feels awesome to have achieved my goal of running a 5k without stopping. And from here, I will just keep pushing...I want to run a 10k by the end of the summer :)

So now for my Mommies on a Mission update...

Weeks Postpardum: 13
Weight 2 weeks ago: 143
This weeks weight: 141

Wooooooo freaking whooooooo! That's a total weight loss of 6 pounds in about 7 weeks, and 11 pounds to go!
Ahhh it feels so good to be achieving my fitness goals! I definitely needed this after a looooong 6 weeks of working hard.

For anyone reading this who is in the same boat as me, trying to get that body back and lose the baby weight, let this post motivate you to stay on track and not give up on your own fitness goals! It takes time! Remember those weeks when I lost NOTHING? I'm so glad I didn't give up. And I'm sure I'll have more disappointing weeks in the future, but now I'm 6 pounds lighter than I was 2 months ago...think about what can happen in 2 more months. A year even. It may be slow, but I'm still 6 pounds lighter.

And now I'm headed to the park for a run...I hope everyone has a great weekend :)

So proud of you! Our first 5k this season is next Saturday. Running feels good. Not great, but good. I always get nervous before a race though-hoping I won't be the last person to finish.=) It may not be my best time ever, but we have our eyes set on the goal of our 25k in May. It is al working towards that.
